Third-Class Junk Mail
Current Album:
Third-Class Junk Mail has seen several band members come and go, half a
dozen songs be written, scrapped, rewritten and then scrapped and more
than a year put into it by Spam, and still going. Initially, it was only Thomas
and Alex as band members, writing "That Whisper of Words" (later
scrapped). They then decided to write another song that was later scrapped,
"Step Too Far". They talked and decided to create Spam. The first album,
which at the time was also titled the band's name, 'Spam', began. Tom then
came up with a few ideas including "Overdue". Alex began work on
"Backtracking" and "Somebody Love Me". Other songs on the album were
written at later dates.
As other artists were sought and brought onto the scene, new concepts and
instruments vastly expanded Spam's variety and the album evolved into
something much grander and what was felt in the hearts of the members. By
the point the current five members were in the band, the final 12 songs were
well under way with two tracks released with extensive more work to go. It had
started late January 2006. The plan had originally being 15 songs, but two
covers were cancelled due to legal issues as well as Spam's desire to be
completely original and another song was not working out so well.
'Spam' was originally the title of the first album. It was a good temporary
solution because the album's song list and structure were still under
development. As a final picture became clearer, it was felt that an album
name could be chosen. Each member contributed their various ideas, with
Tom thinking of 'Junk Mail' and Joshua (a tributee, recognised on the home
page) thought of 'Third-Class Mail'. Combining these two names, creating
'Third-Class Junk Mail' gave the album a title and artwork for it could be
created.
Third-Class Junk Mail comprises of what can be classified as Alternative,
Rock, Pop, and Metal, with a variety of instruments in each song and
different composers working on each track. All of the songs are original.
Want to know who did what? Member profiles on our Meet the Members page
explains each person's role in the band and what they did.
This album is an ongoing effort, with each song being uploaded as it is fully
completed. Even now major changes are happening for the better. The Blues
genre was replaced by Metal, for instance. If you wish to hear a demo of a
currently not uploaded song, either out of curiosity or you are interested in
joining Spam, please contact us and we'll gladly supply you with the
requested material.
By the 6th of January 2008, "Terror" and "The Heart" had been released.
Both had become Top 10 songs in their subgenres and Top 100 and Top 50
in their main genres respectively, putting Spam off to a fine start. "Terror"
and "The Heart" as music videos have also been very successful on
YouTube and SoundClick.
