Current Album:
Spam was originally just Thomas and Alex, late January in 2006. However,
Alex and Thomas had been writing before then, starting "That Whisper of
Words" (later scrapped) mid-2005. Work on it was slow, however another
song that was later scrapped, "Step Too Far" was written as well "Overdue",
and the pair began to talk about starting a band. They came up with the
name Spam, ideas for some more songs and began writing.
Soon into production they realised that they did need a singer as Thomas
was good for backing vocals but not lead singer material. They also needed
a drummer. After some searching, Andrew Pratten was found and he could
do acoustic guitar and drums.
The three now could complete the writing and recording of Third-Class Junk
Mail (the album title decided around October 2006). However, it was soon
realised that an electric guitarist was needed for the remaining songs, which
was when they found Daniel Van Werkhoven in January, 2007, who was in
effect the band's saviour.
After several people joining and leaving or being sacked for various reasons,
Lara joined in early November, 2007 as a brilliant lead singer who had a
beautiful voice for Spam, and Dan doing secondary vocals where needed
which made the band perfect.
Andrew sadly had to pull out due to personal reasons so a new guitarist was
required. Brett Arnold was found for guitar and rums, introducing Spam to a
new continent as well as bringing a new vibrant energy along with him and his
music that has made the band complete.
Originally the band's sound was Alternative, Rock, Pop, and Blues, but with
the removal of "Outcast of Society" and "Lost My Keys" from the album, the
Blues element had gone, and "Rain" was transformed from Rock into Metal,
and "Enclosing Darkness" was written to be a Metal song, so the genre
replacement simply came about naturally.
After going through different phases of prefering one style then changing,
Spam has resulted in a band with large variety of Alternative, Rock, Pop and
Metal music. The band's history is far from over as Third-Class Junk Mail
continues to get developed, and the search for a drummer is still continuing.
